Political Turmoil in Shiv Sena (UBT)

In the midst of ongoing political upheaval within Shiv Sena (UBT), party leader Uddhav Thackeray expressed on Saturday that genuine Shiv Sainiks continue to support him. Speaking to party workers during his visit to Yavatmal, he criticized the rebel MPs who recently joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Thackeray conveyed his embarrassment over the rebellion, stating that true Shiv Sainiks are with him. Regarding the others, he remarked, 'You can see their behavior. I truly feel ashamed that they remained with us for so long.'

Rebellion and Allegations

This visit followed the defection of Sanjay Deshmukh, the MP from Yavatmal-Washim, who was among the six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs to switch allegiance to Shinde's faction. Thackeray accused these defectors of winning their seats solely due to his campaigning and public support. He stated, 'These MPs were elected because of my efforts. Now they have the audacity to claim that visiting their constituencies is pointless, even though they were elected because I campaigned for them. Today, farmers are not receiving guaranteed minimum support prices (MSP), yet these ineffective and newly elected MPs seem secure in their positions.'

Party Meeting and Future Plans

Thackeray also referenced a party meeting held on Friday, indicating that its outcomes would be revealed soon. Accompanying him on this tour were senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Anil Desai and Arvind Sawant. During discussions with journalists, Sawant questioned the reasons behind the MPs leaving the party. He noted, 'We had nine MPs in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha. What issues prompted you to leave the party? The party has not wronged you. Media reports have shown that they did not utilize their MP funds. They are corrupt and a stain on Maharashtra. This corruption was initiated by the BJP across the country.'

Support for Uddhav Thackeray

MP Anil Desai emphasized that voters supported the rebel MPs because they trusted Uddhav Thackeray's leadership. He remarked, 'The people of Maharashtra know Uddhav very well. His management during the COVID-19 pandemic, support for doctors, and standing by farmers during floods and crop losses have left a lasting impression on the public. It was based on their trust in Uddhav that these MPs received votes.'
