Uddhav and Raj Thackeray Unite for Mumbai Municipal Elections with Promises for the People
Thackeray Brothers Release Joint Manifesto
After two decades of political rivalry, Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena UBT) and Raj Thackeray (MNS) have come together to unveil their joint manifesto for the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. This document, titled 'Vachan Nama', presents their alliance as a 'Shiv-Shakti' aimed at safeguarding the interests of 'Marathi Manus' and the city of Mumbai ahead of the elections scheduled for January 15.
Key Promises in the Manifesto
Self-Respect Fund: Monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500 will be provided to women working as domestic helpers and to Koli (fisherwomen).
Affordable Meals: A 'Maa Saheb' kitchen will be launched in honor of Meenatai Thackeray, offering breakfast and lunch for just ₹10.
Property Tax Exemption: There is a proposal to waive property tax for homes up to 700 square feet.
Reduced Travel Costs: The minimum fare for BEST buses will be lowered from ₹10 to ₹5, with new routes introduced.
Education: BMC schools will now offer education from nursery through 12th grade.
Support for Gig Workers: Delivery and other gig workers will be eligible for an interest-free loan of ₹25,000 to purchase e-bikes.
Parking Regulations: Every flat in redeveloped buildings will be required to have a designated parking slot.
Criticism of BJP
During the manifesto launch, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray launched a strong critique against the BJP. Uddhav accused the party of undermining democracy in the state, claiming that after 'vote theft', there is now 'candidate theft'. He called for re-elections in areas where candidates were elected unopposed and demanded an investigation into officials' call records.
Raj Thackeray also targeted the BJP and the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, asserting that they aim to transform Maharashtra into a 'UP-Bihar', which he deemed perilous for the state's future. He emphasized that the next mayor of Mumbai must be a 'Marathi'.
