UAE Takes Action Against Misinformation

In light of ongoing conflicts and escalating regional tensions in West Asia, the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated strict measures against individuals spreading misleading and false information on social media. Authorities have issued arrest orders for a total of 35 individuals, including 19 Indian nationals, all accused of sharing content that jeopardizes regional stability. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), these suspects will be presented in court for a speedy trial.

Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the UAE Attorney General, clarified that this action follows extensive monitoring of digital platforms. The primary aim is to curb the dissemination of fake news and artificially generated content.

The latest list includes 25 individuals from various countries, with 17 being Indian citizens. This list differs from the previous one issued on Saturday, which included 10 individuals, two of whom were also Indian nationals, for whom arrest orders had already been placed.
Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi emphasized that this crackdown is a result of stringent surveillance of digital platforms, aimed at preventing the spread of false information and artificially created content that seeks to incite public disorder and undermine general stability.

Investigations and electronic monitoring revealed that the accused were divided into three groups, each engaged in different activities. These included posting real video clips related to current events, creating fake videos with the help of AI, and promoting the leadership and military actions of a country involved in military aggression.
This operation comes amid rising regional tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
