UAE Allegedly Engages in Military Actions Against Iran Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
UAE's Possible Military Involvement in Iran
Recent reports suggest that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have discreetly engaged in military operations within Iran, potentially positioning itself as a direct participant in the ongoing Middle East conflict alongside the United States and Israel. According to sources cited by a prominent news outlet, the UAE is believed to have conducted strikes, including an assault on a refinery situated on Iran’s Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf. This attack reportedly occurred in early April, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire following a five-week air campaign.
The refinery strike is said to have ignited a significant fire, rendering much of the facility inoperable for several months. Iran later confirmed that the refinery had been targeted in what it termed an enemy attack, subsequently launching missile and drone strikes aimed at the UAE and Kuwait in retaliation.
UAE Remains Silent on Alleged Strikes
Despite the allegations, the UAE has not publicly confirmed any military actions within Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has referred to previous statements emphasizing the nation’s right to respond, including through military means, to hostile actions. Reports indicate that the United States has quietly endorsed the UAE’s involvement in the conflict, with sources suggesting that Washington was not overly concerned as the ceasefire had not yet been fully established.
Throughout the conflict, Iran has heavily targeted the UAE, launching over 2,800 missiles and drones at Emirati territories, airports, and critical infrastructure. These attacks have disrupted tourism, air travel, and the property market, leading Gulf officials to describe a significant shift in Abu Dhabi’s strategic perspective towards Tehran. Security analysts noted that the UAE boasts one of the most sophisticated air forces in the region, equipped with advanced French Mirage fighters, F-16 jets, drones, and surveillance aircraft. Speculation regarding Emirati involvement grew after reports of unidentified fighter jets operating over Iran earlier in the conflict.
Additionally, the UAE has backed draft UN resolutions that authorize the use of force if necessary to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz and has imposed restrictions affecting Iranian-linked schools, clubs, and travel access in Dubai.
