Two Suspected NSCN Members Arrested in Manipur for Extortion

Arrests Made in Tamenglong District

Imphal, August 5 - Authorities in Manipur's Tamenglong district have apprehended two suspected members of the banned group 'National Socialist Council of Nagaland' (Isak-Muivah) on charges of extortion. The police disclosed this information on Wednesday.

The suspects, identified as Gasuaklung Ngaomei (45) from Bhalok village and Job Gangmei (29) from Sibilong Part Two, were taken into custody on Tuesday in the Kamai police station area along National Highway-37, specifically at Sibilong.

Law enforcement officials reported that security personnel recovered a cartridge, ₹22,000 in cash, and two communication devices, including a charger, from the suspects.

In a separate operation, security forces seized a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives near Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district, specifically from the Sendra hill area. The recovered items included a .32 bore pistol with a magazine, a single-barrel breach-loading (SBBL) gun, a .22 bore bolt-action rifle, a Jefferson rifle with a magazine, nine locally made carbines with magazines, two locally manufactured MP-5 weapons with magazines, and six packets containing IEDs.
