Two BSF Personnel Injured in Meghalaya Border Incident

In a troubling incident along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district, two members of the Border Security Force (BSF) sustained injuries due to an attack by suspected cattle smugglers. This information was confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
The confrontation occurred on the morning of July 12, near the Khasimara River. According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed with the Meghalaya police, BSF personnel observed around 20 individuals from Bangladesh attempting to move 30 to 40 cattle across the border.
The FIR detailed that when warnings were issued, a group of 40 to 50 individuals from Bangladesh attempted to breach into Indian territory, throwing stones at the BSF personnel.
As a result of this assault, two BSF soldiers were injured. In response, the BSF stated that their personnel fired shots in self-defense and also discharged rounds into the air to disperse the attackers. Following the incident, the assailants fled the scene, and the BSF managed to recover 13 cattle. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
