On May 30, a significant robbery occurred at a private bank branch in Punjab, where thieves made off with ₹3.6 million in cash and mobile phones belonging to bank employees. On Wednesday, police apprehended two suspects in the Govind Nagar area of Mathura.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar, the Uttar Pradesh police acted on information provided by their Punjab counterparts, leading to the capture of the two accused, identified as Navjot Singh and Zorawar Singh, in a coordinated operation.
Authorities recovered ₹220,000 in cash and several mobile phones from the suspects. Following their arrest, Punjab police transported the accused to Punjab after securing a transit remand from the court.
As reported, the robbery involved three masked assailants who held bank staff hostage at an HDFC Bank branch located in Rehanajata, Kapurthala, Punjab, before fleeing with the substantial amount of cash and phones.
The police chief noted that they received intelligence suggesting the robbers were hiding in Mathura due to its status as a religious site, prompting a collaborative effort with local police to apprehend the wanted individuals.
