A Remarkable Decision by Twin Brothers

Bhubaneswar: Maharuf Ahmed Khan, who achieved an impressive All India Rank of 32 in the JEE Advanced 2026 Examination, chose to decline an offer for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at the esteemed IIT Bombay. Instead, he opted to study alongside his twin brother Masroor, who ranked AIR 169, at IIT Madras.

Despite Maharuf's superior rank allowing him a spot at IIT Bombay, he prioritized his bond with Masroor, who, being two minutes older, might only secure admission at IIT Madras due to his ranking, as shared by their father, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan.

Dr. Khan, an MD in medicine and the in-charge of a dispensary at IIT Bhubaneswar, explained that Maharuf's decision was made to support his brother's educational journey.

Their mother, Dr. Zeenat Begum, who holds an MS in Gynaecology, previously worked at a government hospital in Odisha but resigned to support her sons during their three years of preparation in Kota, Rajasthan.

Dr. Khan mentioned that she might now seek employment at a private hospital or start her own clinic, highlighting her sacrifices for her children's education while he remained in Bhubaneswar.

"We are optimistic that both our sons will secure seats in Computer Science Engineering at IIT Madras," he expressed.

When asked if there was any familial pressure regarding Maharuf's choice, he firmly stated there was none, clarifying that they had encouraged him to accept the IIT Bombay offer, but he chose to remain with his brother.

Maharuf shared that the twins, both alumni of DAV Public School in Unit-8, Bhubaneswar, thrived in a spirit of healthy competition, often collaborating on discussions and problem-solving.

Their routine included five hours of coaching classes in Kota, supplemented by six hours of self-study, with badminton as their leisure activity, as noted by their mother.

Interestingly, both brothers achieved identical scores of 285 and a remarkable percentile of 99.99 in JEE (Main) 2026.
