On Thursday, twelve members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered to the police in Telangana's Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, which borders Chhattisgarh.
Among those who surrendered were nine men and three women. According to a police statement, the group included two members of the Divisional Committee (DVCM), four Area Committee members (ACM), two party members, and an equal number of militia members, along with members of the Revolutionary People's Committee (RPC).
The statement indicated that these Maoists chose to abandon violence in favor of a peaceful existence. They were informed about the welfare initiatives being implemented by the Bhadradri-Kothagudem police under 'Operation Chyutha' aimed at assisting surrendered Maoists and tribal communities.
Each surrendered Maoist will receive an immediate financial aid of ₹25,000. Following the collection of their Aadhaar card and bank account details, a total of ₹26 lakh will be deposited into their accounts based on their ranks. It was noted that this year alone, 294 Maoists have surrendered in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, including those who surrendered today.
