TVK Seeks Supreme Court Intervention for Government Formation in Tamil Nadu

In a significant political move, TVK, led by actor Vijay, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court urging Tamil Nadu's Governor to invite them to form the government. After winning 108 seats in the recent elections, TVK is close to achieving a majority with support from Congress and other leftist parties. Despite multiple requests to the Governor, no invitation has been issued yet. The petition argues that the Governor's inaction violates constitutional provisions, highlighting the urgency of the situation in Tamil Nadu's political landscape.

TVK's Legal Move to Form Government

The actor-led party, TVK, has approached the Supreme Court, requesting that Tamil Nadu's Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, invite them to form the government. Following the elections held on April 23, TVK emerged as the largest party, securing 108 seats in the 234-member assembly. Despite receiving support from the Congress party, which has five legislators, TVK still falls short of the 118 seats needed for a majority.

Support from Other Parties

Vijay, the founder of TVK, has met with Governor Arlekar twice to request an invitation to form the government, but no invitation has been extended so far. Throughout the day, two leftist parties, CPI and CPI (M), each holding two seats, also pledged their support to TVK, bringing them closer to the crucial majority mark of 118 legislators. Additionally, CVK has also expressed support for TVK.

Legal Arguments Presented

The petition filed in the Supreme Court by Ezilarasi argues that the Governor's "failure" to invite Vijay violates Articles 12 and 32 of the Constitution.
