TVK Leader Vijay Rejects Alliance Proposals Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections
TVK's Stance on Election Alliances
The General Secretary of Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK), Arjun, has asserted that their leader, Vijay, was offered the Chief Minister position along with a 50% share of assembly seats by another party for the upcoming elections. Although he did not disclose the name of the party involved in these discussions, Arjun mentioned that the proposal included a two-and-a-half-year term for the Chief Minister role, which Vijay ultimately declined.
TVK's Electoral Debut
TVK is set to make its electoral debut in the assembly elections scheduled for April 23. In a recent interaction with the media, AIADMK's General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, clearly stated that his party is not engaged in any coalition talks with TVK. Supporting this stance, the state president of the BJP, Nainar Nagendran, echoed Palaniswami's position, despite speculation that close associates of the BJP were attempting to negotiate an electoral alliance with TVK to challenge the ruling DMK.
Vijay's Firm Decision on Election Strategy
On Monday night, Vijay firmly dismissed rumors regarding a potential alliance with the BJP-led NDA, reiterating that TVK will contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections independently. This declaration sets the stage for a four-way contest in the state. His statement came shortly after reports suggested that negotiations between TVK and the NDA were in the final stages.
Confidence in Independent Campaign
Vijay made this announcement during a meeting with TVK executives in Pattinapakkam, emphasizing that the party has not engaged in any discussions regarding alliances with other political entities and will participate in the elections solo. With a confident tone, he stated, "We will fight the elections alone, conduct fieldwork in the constituencies, and announce the list of candidates soon. I will also tour across Tamil Nadu. We are determined to win the elections."
