Rajya Sabha Elections Scheduled for June 18 in Tamil Nadu
The by-election for the sole Rajya Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu, which became vacant following the resignation of CV Shanmugam, is set for June 18. The announcement was made by Returning Officer P Thenmozhi on Tuesday. Shanmugam, who was elected from the Mailam constituency during the assembly elections on April 23, resigned from the Rajya Sabha on May 7, necessitating the by-election to fill the vacancy. According to a release from the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat, this election will be conducted to fill the casual vacancy in the state council through voting by the elected members of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Nomination papers can be submitted to Returning Officer P Thenmozhi or Assistant Returning Officer Pearl Line Roopkumar on all working days from 11 AM to 3 PM, except for Sunday and June 7. The last date for filing nominations is June 8, with scrutiny scheduled for June 9 at 11 AM. If more than one candidate remains in the race after the withdrawal deadline of June 11 at 3 PM, voting will take place on June 18 from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Secretariat.
