Tunisia's World Cup Campaign Concludes

Tunisia's participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026 concluded on a disappointing note, as they conceded a total of 12 goals, matching the record for the most goals allowed by a team in the group stage since North Korea in 2010.

In their final group-stage match held at Kansas City Stadium on June 25, the Netherlands secured the top position in Group F with a decisive 3-1 win over Tunisia. The Dutch team finished the group stage unbeaten, achieving two victories and one draw, while Tunisia exited the tournament without securing a single point.

Prior to this match, Tunisia suffered a heavy defeat against Sweden, losing 5-1, followed by a 4-0 loss to Japan. According to Opta Analyst, the 12 goals conceded by Tunisia are the highest since North Korea's 12 in 2010 and the most goals conceded in a FIFA World Cup since Brazil allowed 14 in 2014.

Netherlands' Dominant Performance

The Netherlands started the match with an explosive performance, taking the lead within just three minutes. Denzel Dumfries delivered a low cross into the box, which Tunisia's captain Ellyes Skhiri accidentally redirected into his own net while trying to clear the ball.

Just four minutes later, the Dutch team doubled their lead. Virgil van Dijk kept a corner alive in the area and assisted Brian Brobbey, who scored from close range, marking his third goal of the tournament and establishing a firm control for the Netherlands.

Second Half Developments

The Dutch maintained their dominance throughout the first half, with Frenkie de Jong and Tijjani Reijnders controlling the midfield, leaving Tunisia struggling to create significant chances.

After halftime, Tunisia displayed more urgency and managed to score in the 54th minute. Hazem Mastouri connected with a corner from Hannibal Mejbri, heading the ball past the goalkeeper, giving Tunisia a glimmer of hope.

However, the Netherlands quickly regained their two-goal lead. In the 62nd minute, Reijnders sent in a well-placed corner, which Jan Paul van Hecke headed in from close range, marking his first international goal and effectively sealing the match.

Final Group F Standings

With this victory, the Netherlands topped Group F with seven points, followed by Japan and Sweden, who also advanced to the Round of 32 after a 1-1 draw. Tunisia finished at the bottom of the group, ending their World Cup journey with no points.
