Tulsi Gabbard Resigns from National Intelligence Role to Support Husband's Cancer Battle
Tulsi Gabbard's Resignation Announcement
Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation from her position as Director of National Intelligence under President Donald Trump, following the news of her husband Abraham Williams' diagnosis with a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Gabbard stated that her resignation will take effect on June 30, 2026, as she intends to be by her husband's side during his treatment.
In a heartfelt letter shared on X, Gabbard expressed, "I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle. Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage — standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns, and now my service in this role. His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge. I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position."
Gabbard's decision to resign follows the recent departure of her deputy, Joe Kent, who left in protest against the Iran War, arguing that Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States. Gabbard has previously voiced her opposition to military action against Iran and has cautioned against further conflicts in the Middle East.
