Washington, May 23: Tulsi Gabbard, who has been serving as the US Director of National Intelligence, announced her resignation on Friday, attributing her decision to her husband's health issues.
In her resignation letter to President Trump, she expressed gratitude for the confidence he placed in her during her tenure of one and a half years. She stated, "I must resign effective June 30 due to my husband Abraham's recent diagnosis of a rare bone cancer. He is facing significant challenges in the upcoming weeks, and I need to be there to support him through this difficult time."
Gabbard highlighted the progress made at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in enhancing transparency and restoring integrity within the intelligence community, while acknowledging that there remains much work ahead.
She assured that she would facilitate a smooth transition in the coming weeks to ensure no disruption for the President and his administration.
In her letter, Gabbard commended her husband for his unwavering support during her deployments and her service as Director of National Intelligence.
"I cannot, in good conscience, continue in this demanding role while he faces this battle alone," she explained her choice to resign.
President Trump acknowledged her resignation on Truth Social, stating, "Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her. Aaron Lukas, her highly respected Principal Deputy Director, will take over as Acting Director of National Intelligence." He also expressed his support for Gabbard's decision to prioritize her husband's health, wishing them both strength during this challenging time.
