AMMK's Strategic Decision Ahead of Elections
The political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu is heating up as the upcoming assembly elections approach. In this context, TTV Dhinakaran, the general secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), announced on Tuesday that the party will not participate in the elections. He emphasized that their primary goal is to ensure the formation of an 'Amma' government in alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), reflecting the governance style of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
While addressing the media, Dhinakaran stated that 99.9% of Amma's supporters have united within the NDA coalition to defeat the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which he labeled as an anti-people government. He reiterated that the majority of supporters are now aligned with the NDA, coming together to challenge what they perceive as a detrimental force in the DMK.
Dhinakaran also mentioned that the NDA has gained significant strength in the state, with all allied parties working cohesively. He acknowledged speculation regarding the potential reunification of the AMMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which have been divided for the past nine years. He asserted that both parties are now fully united from grassroots to leadership, sharing a common objective: to restore the governance of Puratchi Thalaivi Amma under the NDA in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Furthermore, he indicated that the AMMK has joined the BJP-led coalition at the national level, while in Tamil Nadu, it will operate under the leadership of the AIADMK. Criticizing the opposition, Dhinakaran claimed there is uncertainty in the alliance between the DMK and Congress, alleging that the Congress party is demanding 35 to 40 seats and insisting on forming a coalition government, demands that the DMK has not agreed to.
