Trump Vows Intensified Military Action Against Iran Amid Ongoing Conflict
Escalation of Military Operations
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States would ramp up its military operations against Iran as the conflict in the Middle East continues into its third week without signs of resolution. In a conversation with Fox News Radio, Trump indicated that American forces are gearing up for more intense strikes on Iranian targets. He stated, "We will be hitting them very hard over the next week." Earlier, Trump expressed a more aggressive stance on Truth Social, asserting that the U.S. is "totally destroying" Iran. He claimed, "We are completely dismantling the terrorist regime of Iran, both militarily and economically." He further stated, "Iran's Navy is gone, their Air Force is no longer operational, and their missiles and drones are being obliterated, with their leaders eliminated from existence." He emphasized, "We possess unmatched firepower, unlimited ammunition, and ample time to act."
Trump also hinted at potential significant developments later in the day, stating, "Watch what happens to these deranged scumbags today." In another post, he remarked, "They've been killing innocent people globally for 47 years, and now I, as the 47th President of the United States, am taking them down. It’s a great honor to do so!" These comments coincided with the U.S. announcing an unprecedented increase in strikes against Iran, following military operations initiated by Washington and its ally Israel on February 28.
During a briefing at the Department of Defense, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the military campaign is progressing as intended, focusing on crippling Iran's military capabilities. He noted that Friday marked the largest wave of attacks since the conflict began, with U.S. and Israeli forces targeting approximately 15,000 locations across Iran.
Despite the escalating military actions, there are increasing calls for de-escalation in Washington due to the rising death toll and economic pressures affecting global energy markets. Crude oil prices have surged, with Brent Crude nearing $100 per barrel as tensions in the Gulf disrupt shipping routes. This disruption is largely attributed to Iran's effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for about one-fifth of the world's oil and natural gas exports. Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated on Thursday that Iran would persist in its efforts to keep the waterway closed. In his first public remarks since taking over from his father, Ali Khamenei, he warned that Tehran might open additional fronts in the conflict if U.S. and Israeli attacks continue.
According to reports from officials and NGOs, nearly 2,600 individuals have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict, with the majority being in Iran. In another post on Thursday, Trump defended the military actions while addressing the rise in oil prices, stating, "The United States is the largest oil producer globally, so when oil prices rise, we benefit significantly. However, my primary concern as President is preventing an evil empire, Iran, from acquiring nuclear weapons and destabilizing the Middle East and the world. I will never allow that to happen!"
