Trump Threatens Further Strikes on Iran's Kharg Island Amid Rising Tensions

Escalating Conflict in the Middle East

On Saturday, President Donald Trump indicated that the United States might conduct additional strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, stating it could be done 'just for fun.' He claimed that recent U.S. military actions had significantly damaged this crucial oil export location. Trump expressed surprise at Iran's reaction to the ongoing conflict, which escalated on February 28 when Israel initiated a military operation named 'Roaring Lion' against Iran, later supported by the U.S. under the title 'Epic Fury.' This series of attacks resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran launched strikes against U.S. positions and Israel. Trump, in an interview with NBC News, remarked that the U.S. had 'totally demolished' much of Kharg Island during recent operations. He had previously announced via social media that the U.S. had 'obliterated' military targets on the island, warning that the oil infrastructure could be next on the list.

Kharg Island, located approximately 21 miles off Iran's southern coast, is vital for the country's crude oil exports. Trump stated, 'Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island.' He also mentioned that he refrained from destroying the oil infrastructure for reasons of decency but warned that any interference with the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz would prompt a reconsideration of this stance.

In response, Iran issued a warning that if its oil infrastructure were attacked, all oil fields and related facilities across the West Asian region would become targets. A spokesperson for the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya stated that any assault on Iran’s oil infrastructure would lead to the destruction of energy facilities belonging to companies with American ties, turning them into 'a pile of ashes,' as reported by various media outlets.
