Trump Discusses Relationship with Modi Amid Tariff Issues

Washington: On Tuesday, President Donald Trump remarked that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "not particularly pleased with me" due to the tariffs that the U.S. has placed on India regarding its imports of Russian oil.

During his address at the House GOP Member Retreat, Trump recounted an interaction with Modi, stating, "Prime Minister Modi came to see me, 'Sir, may I see you please?' Yes."

He continued, "I maintain a strong relationship with him. However, he’s not entirely satisfied with me because they are currently facing high tariffs due to their oil dealings, although they have significantly reduced their purchases from Russia recently."

The tariffs imposed by Trump include a hefty 50 percent on various imports from India, with a specific 25 percent on Russian oil purchases.

Additionally, Trump mentioned that India has been awaiting the delivery of Apache helicopters for five years, stating, "We’re making changes. India has ordered 68 Apaches."
