Trump Praises Israel Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East
Trump's Support for Israel
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump expressed strong support for Israel, describing it as a key strategic ally during the ongoing conflict with Iran. In a post on Truth Social, the former president emphasized that Israel has demonstrated itself to be a "GREAT Ally of the United States of America," highlighting its courage, loyalty, and intelligence. Trump criticized other allies who, in his view, have revealed their true nature during recent geopolitical challenges, asserting that Israel has shown resilience and knows how to succeed in difficult times. He stated, “Whether people like Israel or not, they have proven to be a GREAT Ally of the United States of America. They are Courageous, Bold, Loyal, and Smart and, unlike others that have shown their true colors in a moment of conflict and stress, Israel fights hard, and knows how to WIN! President DJT.”
In related news, the IRGC Navy has announced the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, citing the US's continued blockade of Iranian ports as a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
Ceasefire Developments
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, attributing this decision to the US's enforcement of a blockade on Iranian ports, which Tehran claims violates the ceasefire terms. According to Iranian state media, the IRGC clarified that after the ceasefire was initially declared, Iran had allowed non-military vessels to pass through a designated corridor in the waterway. However, this policy has now been revoked due to perceived aggression from the US. The IRGC stated, "Due to the violation of the ceasefire conditions, and as the American adversary has not lifted the naval blockade on Iranian vessels and ports, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed as of this evening until this blockade is removed."
This closure represents a significant escalation in the maritime tensions between the two nations. Following the announcement, the IRGC issued a warning to all maritime traffic, stating that no vessels should attempt to leave their anchorage in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman towards the Strait. The IRGC cautioned that any such actions would be considered "cooperation with the enemy," and those vessels would be targeted. Additionally, the Iranian military dismissed recent comments from Washington, asserting that statements from the US president regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf hold no legitimacy. A second round of discussions between the US and Iran is anticipated to occur in Islamabad next week, with Trump suggesting he may attend.
