Trump's Firm Stance on Iran

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure with Iran, warning that the country would face severe consequences if it fails to reach an agreement. This statement comes as the deadline he set approaches. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump made it clear that Tuesday's deadline is final. He stated that if Iran does its part, the situation could be resolved swiftly. They have certain actions to undertake, which they are aware of. He further remarked that the people there are much more sensible compared to the 'madmen' of the first and second phases. These comments followed Iran's formal rejection of a ceasefire proposal from the U.S. via Pakistan, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

Iran's Response to Ceasefire Proposal

Tehran has insisted on a permanent end to hostilities rather than a temporary ceasefire. In response, Iran presented a framework consisting of ten points, which includes ending conflicts across the region, ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions, and commitments to reconstruction. Addressing criticism over his use of profanity in a Truth Social post regarding reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Trump clarified that he used such language merely to emphasize his point. He stated, 'I think you’ve heard it before.' Trump warned that if no agreement is reached by 8 PM EST (0000 GMT) on Tuesday, there would be serious repercussions, including threats of unleashing 'hell' on Tehran. This urgency is partly due to the need to restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supply.

Trump's Remarks on American Soldiers

Despite the intense rhetoric, when asked about the two American servicemen rescued in Iran, Trump adopted a more measured tone. He mentioned that both are recovering rapidly. Although they were injured, they are now doing well. In his additional remarks, Trump acknowledged that Iran has made a significant proposal, but he also noted that 'it is not enough.' He took a jab at Britain, stating, 'Britain has a long way to go. We do not want another Neville Chamberlain, do we agree?'
