Trump Hails Major Development in US-Iran Negotiations
Significant Progress in US-Iran Talks
On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump announced that Iran has provided the United States with a "very big present," which he characterized as a "significant prize" related to oil and gas resources. During a press briefing, Trump remarked, "They gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money." He hinted that this development was tied to energy resources but refrained from disclosing specific details.
Trump confirmed that high-ranking officials, including Vice-President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are actively engaged in negotiations with Iran. "We're in negotiations right now. They're doing it, along with Marco, JD, with a number of people doing it," he stated from the Oval Office. Expressing optimism, Trump suggested that Tehran is open to reaching an agreement, saying, "The other side, I can tell you they'd like to make a deal, and who wouldn't?" He noted the weakened state of Iran's military capabilities, stating, "If you were there, look, their navy's gone, their air force is gone, their communications are done — that's the biggest problem."

When questioned about his change in stance regarding a ceasefire, Trump attributed it to the ongoing discussions. He emphasized that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is a crucial aspect of any potential agreement. "And remember, it all starts with they cannot have a nuclear weapon," he asserted. Trump reiterated that Iran had signaled it would not seek nuclear arms, although he did not elaborate on the specifics of the negotiations.
