Trump's Insights on the Ukraine War

On Monday, US President Donald Trump expressed that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are eager to conclude the ongoing war. This statement comes as Russia intensified its attacks on Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of at least 18 individuals. Trump remarked, "President Putin wants it to end. I will tell you that very strongly. Good call. And President Zelensky actually wants it to end now, and we're going to be going to NATO, and we're going to be talking about it,” during a press interaction at the Oval Office after initiating the opening bells for the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq to introduce Trump Accounts for children. Over the weekend, Trump had separate discussions with both leaders regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, which has now persisted for five years.

Trump's Claims of Conflict Resolutions

While addressing the Russia-Ukraine situation, Trump reiterated his assertion of having ended eight wars, including the conflict between India and Pakistan. He stated, "I ended eight wars, and this (Ukraine) was, in my opinion, going to be an easier one because I know both heads -- I didn't know most of the heads. I did India, I did Pakistan, I did others that could have been a really bad one, nuclear." He elaborated on the potential nuclear threat, mentioning that, according to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the conflict could have resulted in the deaths of 40 to 50 million people. Trump referred to the intense four-day period during which 11 planes were shot down, highlighting his role in halting the escalation during Operation Sindoor last year. He concluded by expressing optimism about the Ukraine situation, stating, "this is one that I think we're getting much closer than people realize." Meanwhile, India has consistently rejected any claims of third-party involvement during the conflict with Pakistan in May 2025, which saw India launching Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
