Trump's Remarks on India and Tariffs

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not particularly pleased with him due to the tariffs imposed by the U.S. on India's purchases of Russian oil.

During his speech at the 'House GOP Member Retreat', Trump recounted an encounter with Modi, stating, "The Prime Minister came to me and asked, 'Sir, can I meet with you?' I replied, 'Of course.'"

The President emphasized that he has a strong relationship with Modi, although he noted that Modi is somewhat unhappy because of the significant tariffs. However, he mentioned that India has significantly reduced its oil trade with Russia.

The 'House GOP Member Retreat' is an annual gathering for members of the Republican Party in the U.S. House of Representatives. Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India, which includes a 25% tariff specifically on oil purchases from Russia.

Additionally, Trump mentioned that India has informed him about a five-year wait for Apache helicopters, stating, "We are changing that. India has ordered 68 Apache helicopters."
