Trump's Bold Statements on Iran Negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that Iranian negotiators are pleading for an agreement, claiming that the country is completely devastated militarily. He dismissed Tehran's public statement that it is merely reviewing Washington's proposal, stating, "The Iranian negotiators are very different and strange. They are begging us for a deal, which they should be doing since they have been entirely wiped out militarily, and there is no chance of their return. Yet, they publicly claim they are just considering our proposal. Wrong!!!"

Trump's Urgent Call for Seriousness

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the need for seriousness soon, warning that once a certain point is reached, there will be no turning back, and the outcomes will not be favorable. These comments came amidst conflicting signals regarding ongoing efforts to end the war between Washington and Tehran. Despite Iran rejecting the proposed 15-point ceasefire plan from the U.S., Trump has repeatedly claimed that a deal is imminent.

Upcoming China Visit

President Trump is scheduled to visit China on May 14 and 15, where he will participate in a rescheduled summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. The White House confirmed this information. Initially, Trump was set to travel to China earlier this month, but he postponed the trip due to the ongoing conflict with Iran. Announcing the highly anticipated visit, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt stated that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, in Washington this year.

Clarification on Meeting Rescheduling

When asked if the meeting between the two leaders was rescheduled on the condition of ending the war, Levitt clarified that there had been no discussion regarding rescheduling the meeting between President Trump and Xi. She noted that President Xi understands the importance of President Trump’s presence given the current situation in the region. He acknowledged and accepted the request to postpone the meeting, which is why it is now taking place.
