Trump's Warning to Israel
In a recent report, US President Donald Trump advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that ongoing military operations against Iran might lead to Israel facing isolation. This warning comes as the US aims to negotiate a more sustainable peace agreement with Tehran. During an interview with Axios, Trump expressed his concerns, stating, "I told Bibi, you need to be cautious, or you might find yourself alone very soon." He also mentioned that Israel had provided the US with minimal advance notice before executing strikes on Iran over the weekend, saying, "Israel informed us quite late."
Following the escalation, several regional nations reached out to Trump, expressing their worries and urging him to engage with the Israeli government. Trump noted, "These nations are very anxious. They appreciate the deal we are working on." He also revealed that Iranian officials communicated through US channels, indicating a willingness to cease attacks if Israel reciprocated. "They contacted us, stating they would stop their attacks and requested that we ask Israel to do the same," he added.
This exchange occurred after a phone call between Trump and Netanyahu on Monday morning, where Trump urged the Israeli leader to halt further military actions, suggesting that a significant breakthrough in negotiations with Tehran was imminent regarding Iran's nuclear program. This conversation followed a recent spike in tensions that threatened a ceasefire established in April. The conflict escalated on Sunday when Israel targeted sites near Beirut, Lebanon, linked to Hezbollah, an Iran-supported group. In retaliation, Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles towards Israel.
On Monday, the Israeli military reported conducting airstrikes within Iran, targeting what they claimed was the largest petrochemical facility in the country. This led to additional Iranian missile strikes on central Israel. Following his discussion with Trump, Netanyahu announced that Israel's military actions against Iran were currently paused. Iranian military officials also indicated a temporary halt to their attacks, as stated on Iranian state television. However, both parties cautioned that military actions could resume if provocations continued.
