President Donald Trump has revealed the details for a rally scheduled on June 24, which will take the place of a previously planned extensive concert series celebrating America's 250th anniversary, as reported by a major news outlet. The initiative, named Freedom 250, was intended to feature a 16-day concert series dubbed the Great American State Fair. However, the plans fell apart last week when several artists withdrew, citing concerns over the event's political affiliations and confusion regarding their commitments.
Musical Performances at the Rally
Despite the transition to a rally format, musical performances will still be part of the event. In a post on Truth Social dated June 4, Trump announced that country artist Lee Greenwood would kick off the rally by singing his iconic 1984 song "God Bless The U.S.A" before introducing the president. Additionally, opera singer Christopher Macchio is scheduled to perform, along with the U.S. Army Band, Armed Forces Choir, U.S. Marine Band, and the Joint Armed Forces Chorus.
Trump's Perspective on Canceled Performers
Trump was candid about his decision to abandon the original concert plans. In his Truth Social post, he expressed a lack of interest in performers who demand high fees but lack talent, emphasizing that he preferred a gathering focused on the audience, a few speakers, and familiar music. He stated, "We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep; we’ve told them all to stay home. All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years."
Longstanding Connections with Performers
Both Greenwood and Macchio have longstanding relationships with Trump. Greenwood, now 83, expressed that receiving the invitation was a significant honor and has been a regular performer at Trump events, including past campaign rallies and even co-selling a Bible with the president in 2021. Macchio is also familiar with performing at Trump events, having sung at the president's inauguration in January 2025. The rally is set to take place on June 24.
