Trump Alleges Sensitive Information Leak During Iran Rescue Operation
Trump's Alarming Claim on Information Leak
Former President Donald Trump has made a startling assertion, claiming that during a rescue operation involving the F-15E Strike Eagle in Iran, an insider from the U.S. government leaked highly sensitive information to the media. According to Trump, this leak not only endangered the life of another pilot but also complicated the entire rescue mission.
During a press briefing at the White House on Monday, Trump warned U.S. media outlets to disclose their sources, threatening that failure to do so could result in jail time. He also vowed to identify the insider responsible for the leak of this critical information.
Iran Unaware of U.S. Airman: Trump
Trump stated that a media report revealed the U.S. military had rescued one crew member of the F-15, while still searching for another. This disclosure alerted Iran, making the rescue operation even more challenging. He remarked, 'We are making every effort to find that insider. The media essentially revealed that we have one person and another is missing, while [Iran] was unaware that anyone was missing until that insider leaked the information.'
Warning to Media: 'Name Your Source or Face Jail'
Trump indicated that U.S. officials would reach out to the media organization that published the report, demanding the identification of the source. He cautioned that if the organization refused, legal action could ensue. However, it was not immediately clear which media outlet he was referencing.
He further stated that the government would invoke 'national security' concerns to pressure the organization. Officials believe they will eventually uncover the identity of the source who leaked the information.
Iran's Response Complicates Rescue Efforts
Trump also claimed that following the report's publication, Iran issued a notice promising a reward for capturing the missing pilot. He noted that this announcement significantly complicated the ongoing rescue operation. This news is being reported by various media outlets. According to him, this development heightened the urgency and risks associated with the rescue mission.
Seriousness of the Leak and Ongoing Investigations
Describing the leak as a serious issue, Trump emphasized that efforts to identify the responsible individual are ongoing. He warned that if the source's name is not revealed, the journalist involved could face imprisonment. The operation to rescue the F-15E pilot was described as daring.
Reports indicate that an F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over southwestern Iran on Friday. This incident marks the first confirmed case of an American fighter jet being destroyed within the country since the conflict began on February 28.
Both crew members—a pilot and a weapon systems officer—successfully ejected from the aircraft. The pilot was rescued shortly after, but the whereabouts of the second airman remain unknown.
According to a report from a major news outlet, the rescue operation was conducted by SEAL Team 6, involving hundreds of special operations soldiers and other U.S. military personnel operating deep within Iran.
Details of the Rescue Operation
The report further detailed that U.S. aircraft conducted airstrikes and fired upon Iranian convoys to prevent them from approaching the area where the airman was believed to be hiding. During the operation, commandos also engaged in gunfire to halt advancing Iranian forces, although there were no reports of direct firefights.
