Tripura's Chief Minister Plans Road Expansion to Alleviate Traffic Issues

Addressing Traffic Congestion at Churaibari Check Gate

Agartala, Jan 12: In a bid to tackle the persistent traffic jams at Tripura's primary entry point, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday his intention to discuss road widening with Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Churaibari inter-state check gate.

Situated approximately 151 kilometers from Agartala, Churaibari experiences significant daily traffic congestion due to the narrow roadways on both the Tripura and Assam sides.

During his visit to North Tripura on Sunday, Saha evaluated the conditions at the check gate and recognized the urgent need for road expansion to facilitate smoother vehicle movement across the border.

"This issue extends beyond Tripura; the Assam side also requires widening. Our goal is to ensure seamless vehicle flow at the inter-state check gate," stated the Chief Minister.

He also expressed concerns regarding the rapid increase of stone-crushing units in the Churaibari region, highlighting the environmental risks posed by dust emissions.

Saha mentioned plans to hold a meeting with officials to regulate these operations.

Additionally, the Chief Minister visited the Dharmanagar fuel depot, where he engaged with tanker drivers, advising them against paying any unauthorized individuals and to report such incidents to the Chief Minister’s Office.

"I made it clear to the drivers not to give money to anyone. They should inform the CMO if anyone requests payment from them. The government aims to maintain transparency at all levels," he emphasized.
