Agartala, Oct 23: A 19-year-old from Tripura, who faced racial abuse in a viral video, announced on Thursday that he has forgiven Amir Shokeen, a content creator based in Delhi, after receiving an unconditional apology from him.

Shokeen was apprehended in New Delhi on Thursday evening for allegedly humiliating the Tripura youth, according to official reports.

The teenager, who works as housekeeping staff in a restaurant in Ahmedabad, revealed that the video was filmed about a month ago without his knowledge. He only became aware of it when it surfaced on social media recently, which left him feeling distressed.

“The influencer has apologized, and I have chosen to forgive him,” he stated.

The video, which depicted Shokeen making offensive comments about the Tripura youth, sparked outrage throughout the North East region.

“I did not wish for the influencer to face arrest for his actions. I want to avoid any legal issues and do not seek anything further,” he expressed when questioned about Shokeen's detention.

Originating from the Anandabazar area in North Tripura, the youth expressed concern about potential repercussions if the situation escalated, leading to severe police actions.

He mentioned that he earns Rs 10,000 monthly, which is the only income supporting his family of four.

“I attended St Paul’s School in Agartala until Class 9 but had to leave my studies to support my family. I started working at the restaurant three and a half months ago, earning Rs 10,000 a month. I fear future complications,” he added.

Political leaders from various parties have condemned the incident and called for appropriate measures.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju took to social media, asserting that Shokeen would face consequences, and that both Delhi and Tripura police would ensure he learns a “hard lesson.”

“This wrongdoer will be punished. Although there was a delay in filing the official complaint, both Delhi and Tripura police will take necessary actions,” the minister stated.

Earlier, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the TIPRA Motha Party, urged law enforcement to bring Shokeen to Tripura for a thorough investigation.

According to police sources, a team from Tripura Police is expected to arrive in Delhi to take custody of Shokeen from the local police.
