Agartala, Sept 27: The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has finalized all arrangements for the Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28, which will take place at 1,095 polling stations across 44 blocks.
During a media briefing at the SEC office, Secretary Anurag Sen announced that approximately 6.65 lakh voters are anticipated to participate in the elections.
Initially, 1,550 polling stations were planned, but the number has been adjusted to 1,095. Comprehensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth voting process.
Sen reported that 74 companies of Central armed forces have been deployed in the state, conducting area patrols and other security operations in preparation for the elections. Additionally, around 7,300 polling personnel have been assigned to election duties.
Sector officers have been tasked with ensuring the secure transport of polling teams to their designated locations, accompanied by security forces.
The polling teams will transport ballot boxes and papers to the assigned stations. Once voting concludes on September 28 and all necessary sealing procedures are completed, the election materials will be moved to designated centers under the supervision of the respective Returning Officers. The Commission has set up 44 strong rooms—one in each block—and 44 separate counting halls for the election process, according to Sen.
In addition, the SEC is also preparing for the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections. Sen mentioned that the final list of polling stations for these elections was released on Friday by the District Magistrates and Collectors, who also serve as District Municipal Election Officers.
Furthermore, the SEC has announced the timeline for the electoral roll publication. The draft electoral roll will be made available on October 1, with the deadline for claims and objections set for October 8. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on October 15, as stated by Sen.
