Agartala, Dec 18: On Thursday, authorities in Tripura apprehended three individuals, including two women, from Assam related to the assault of a delivery boy in Dharmanagar, who subsequently took his own life, as reported by officials.


The individuals taken into custody have been named as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee, and Sourav Bhattacharjee.


As per the FIR filed by the victim's family, two additional suspects, Meghadeep Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar, are currently on the run.


Law enforcement stated that the victim was subjected to public humiliation and violence by the arrested suspects along with two others on December 14.


"With the help of Assam Police, we arrested the three suspects from Sribhumi district in southern Assam on Thursday. They will soon be presented in court in Dharmanagar," a police spokesperson mentioned.


The deceased has been identified as Prasenjit Sarkar, a 23-year-old resident of Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, who worked as a delivery boy for a private courier service.


According to claims made by Sarkar's family, he was assaulted by three women and two men at his workplace on December 14 due to a dispute over a parcel delivery.


The accused reportedly filmed the assault and shared the video on social media, leading to public humiliation and significant emotional distress for the young man.


Family members and local residents have expressed that the incident severely impacted Sarkar's dignity and mental health.


Overwhelmed by the humiliation, Sarkar, who was the primary breadwinner for his family, allegedly died by suicide later that day, leaving his grieving mother and relatives behind.


Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, stated that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing regarding the incident. He assured the public via social media that justice would be served promptly.


The incident has triggered widespread protests throughout Tripura, with various political parties and civil society groups calling for immediate justice and strict penalties for those involved.
