Tripura Minister Appeals for Rescue of Child Labourers in Arunachal Pradesh
Urgent Call for Action
Agartala, Dec 25: Tinku Roy, the Labour Minister of Tripura, has reached out to his counterpart in Arunachal Pradesh, Nyato Dukam, requesting urgent assistance to rescue approximately 30 child labourers from Unakoti district. These children were reportedly enticed to Arunachal Pradesh with promises of employment.
In his correspondence to Dukam, Roy highlighted that these labourers have been subjected to mistreatment and are living in deplorable conditions. He mentioned that a formal complaint has been lodged at the Kailashahar Police Station regarding this situation.
Roy's letter detailed that a case was filed at Kailashahar PS, indicating that around 30 child labourers, along with some adults, were transported from Rangrung Tea Garden to Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite being promised fair wages and benefits, the labourers have been denied their rightful dues. Families of the affected children have expressed concerns about the ill-treatment and inhumane living conditions, which have caused significant mental distress and anxiety among the children. Roy emphasized the families' urgent plea for the safe and swift return of their loved ones.
He urged Dukam to take immediate action, citing the humanitarian implications of the situation. Roy stated, “Given the gravity of this issue and the humanitarian concerns at stake, I sincerely request your prompt intervention to facilitate the rescue and safe return of these labourers to their families.”
Furthermore, the Tripura Labour Minister reminded that employing children as labourers is illegal and represents a serious infringement on human rights and dignity.
