Tripura Hosts Inaugural National Golf Tournament to Promote Tourism and Sports
Tripura Open Golf Tournament Kicks Off
On Sunday, the Tripura government launched the first national-level golf event, the Tripura Open Golf Tournament, at the Tusker BSF Golf Course located within the BSF campus in Salbagan, Agartala. This tournament is part of the 'Bharat Golf Mahotsava' GFI Tour 2025, as announced by the FTR HQ of the Border Security Force. The closing ceremony was attended by the Governor of Tripura, while the Chief Minister officiated at the opening ceremony. Notable attendees included Tinku Roy, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, IG BSF Tripura Frontier, and various dignitaries from different sectors, along with golfers from Tripura and other states, as well as representatives from the Army, BSF, Assam Rifles, and CRPF.
Chief Minister Highlights Tourism Potential
Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha, the Chief Minister, who has a long-standing relationship with the BSF and sports, praised the Tripura Frontier BSF for developing a lush golf course characterized by its valleys, groves, mounds, and water bodies in a short span. He commended the IG of BSF and the Tripura Frontier for their efforts and acknowledged the Golf Federation of India (GFI) and the Tripura Golf Association (TGA) for hosting such a significant event in the state. The CM emphasized that events like this will inspire the youth of Tripura and enhance tourism.
Governor Celebrates a Milestone for Tripura
Indrasena Reddy Nallu, the Governor of Tripura, referred to the event as a historic milestone for the state. He congratulated the Tusker BSF Golf Club, the Tripura Golf Association, sponsors, organizers, and participants for their dedication and professionalism that contributed to the event's success. He noted that Tripura is naturally suited for golf, and the initiative by the Tripura Frontier BSF aligns with the state's aspirations.
BSF IG Discusses Golf's Impact on Ecology and Economy
During the opening ceremony, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, IG BSF Tripura, welcomed the Chief Minister and the Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs. He expressed appreciation to the GFI for their involvement in the event, stating that it places Tripura on the golfing map. He highlighted that golf serves not only as a sport but also as a means to promote ecological and economic development. He described golf courses as vital for urban environments and emphasized their role in advancing tourism.
Chakraborty also praised Tripura's scenic beauty, including its valleys, mounds, and rich vegetation, and pointed out the state's potential for eco-tourism, water sports, paragliding, and other adventurous activities.
The organization of this inaugural golf tournament at the Tusker BSF Golf Club marks a significant moment and the dawn of a new era for Tripura. He encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to engage more in sports and maintain a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
