Agartala, Jun 24: The Tripura administration has announced a ban on private practice for doctors working at the GBP-AGMC hospital, aiming to enhance the quality of services provided at this healthcare facility.
State Minister Sushanta Chowdhury revealed on Tuesday that faculty members and medical officers at GB Pant Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College will receive a 20% increase in their basic salary as a non-practice allowance.
During the recent council of ministers meeting, a proposal was approved to prevent these healthcare professionals from engaging in private practice.
"In return, they will receive a 20% increase in their basic salary as a non-practice allowance. A formal notification will be issued shortly," he stated.
The minister emphasized that this decision aims to enhance the services at the state's leading healthcare institution.
According to Chowdhury, Chief Minister Manik Saha has noted that despite improvements in infrastructure, there are still complaints regarding patient satisfaction. The decision was made after consultations with the doctors' association.
He added that faculty members and medical officers are free to resign if they wish to continue their private practice.
Approximately 350 faculty members and medical officers are affiliated with the hospital, as per official sources.
"Initially, this policy will apply only to doctors at GB Pant Hospital & AGMC as a pilot project, with the potential for expansion to other government hospitals in the future," the minister concluded.
