Tripura CM Proposes Seaplane Services to Enhance Tourism

Tripura's Vision for Tourism Development

Agartala, June 6: The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, has reached out to the central government to explore the possibility of launching seaplane services aimed at connecting the Narikel Kunja island resort located in Dumboor Lake, Dhalai district.

During a recent meeting of the High-Level Task Force, which is chaired by Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and focuses on enhancing tourism in the Northeast, Saha presented this proposal to Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).

Saha highlighted the necessity for a strategic framework that would draw both national and international investments by pinpointing high-potential areas and projects within the Northeastern states, as stated by the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday.

He underscored the importance of reassessing current investment practices, tourism policies, incentive schemes, and regulatory frameworks to foster a more favorable environment for growth.

Additionally, Saha mentioned the introduction of new homestay guidelines to promote tourism, with 48 homestays currently operational in the state.

He also noted that a delegation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently visited Kailashahar airport to evaluate its potential.

To further boost tourism, Saha announced that a lease agreement has been finalized between the Tourism Department and the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) for establishing a Taj property at the historic Pushpawant Palace.

The state is actively engaging in road shows and investment conferences in the Northeast to attract more investments in the tourism sector.

Tourism ministers from Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, along with other regional stakeholders, were present at the meeting.
