Support for Victim's Family
New Delhi/Agartala, Mar 3: Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura, pledged comprehensive support to the family of a 19-year-old girl from the state who was reportedly assaulted in Gurugram.
According to an official from the Chief Minister’s Office in Agartala, Saha, who is presently in New Delhi, met with the victim's parents to express his solidarity.
The young woman was allegedly attacked by her live-in partner, sparking significant outrage throughout Tripura and other northeastern regions.
In a post on Facebook, the Chief Minister stated, “Today, I met the parents of the victim from Gurugram in New Delhi during this tragic time.”
“With heartfelt empathy, I assured them of our unwavering support from the Tripura government and instructed the Special Chief Resident Commissioner of Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to assist them. The Tripura government has committed to covering all medical expenses for the victim. Our thoughts are with you,” he added.
Previously, the Chief Minister mentioned that his counterpart in Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, had promised to ensure justice for the Tripura student involved in the Gurugram incident.
At Saha's request, Tripura's Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy visited the hospital to evaluate the situation and provide assistance to the victim.
The victim, who was studying Biotechnology in Gurugram, reportedly endured severe physical abuse from her live-in partner, identified as Shivam (19).
The incident was revealed in the third week of February when the victim called her mother in distress, claiming that her partner had locked her in a room and assaulted her for three consecutive days.
Shivam, a resident of Narela in Delhi, was apprehended on February 19 after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against him at the Badshahpur police station in Gurugram.
Describing the harrowing experience, the victim’s mother recounted to the media and police that her daughter had called her in panic, stating, “I don’t have much time; I will be killed… Shivam has been beating and burning me for the past three days. He will murder me today.”
Authorities indicated that the accused had allegedly engaged in physical relations with the girl under the guise of marriage.
The Gurugram Police confirmed they are closely monitoring the situation. Charges of rape and assault have been added to the FIR, and the accused is currently in judicial custody. An ongoing investigation is in progress.
The victim was initially admitted to AIIMS Delhi and is now receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in the capital, according to police reports.
