Tripura CM Manik Saha Discusses Potential Alliance with Tipra Motha Party

Agartala, Aug 16: On Sunday, Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, confirmed that discussions between the BJP and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) regarding a potential alliance for the upcoming village committee elections are ongoing.
He stated, "We remain open to forming an alliance for the village committee elections, and negotiations between our parties continue. A definitive announcement will follow once we finalize the electoral agreement with TMP," Saha informed reporters.
Expressing confidence, Saha noted that the BJP has a history of maintaining its alliances and is hopeful about collaborating with TMP for the elections.
This statement was made just a day prior to a significant organizational meeting planned by TMP to determine its stance on the alliance.
TMP leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has convened this meeting for Monday to outline the party's strategy for the elections.
According to TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma, "Bubagra has called for a crucial meeting on Monday to decide the future direction regarding the village committee elections. Approximately 300 party leaders are expected to participate in this session to finalize the alliance decision."
He added that Debbarma has received communication from Delhi to continue discussions about the alliance and is likely to travel to the national capital after gathering input from party members.
Previously, Debbarma and other TMP representatives met with BJP national president Nitin Nabin in Delhi, but they were unable to reach a consensus on an electoral arrangement.
The elections for 587 village committees within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are set to take place in the early part of September.
In the previous TTAADC elections, TMP secured 24 out of 28 seats, even while sharing power with the BJP at the state level.
