Tripura CM Advocates for Repair of Border Fencing with Bangladesh

Urgent Call for Border Security Enhancements
Agartala, June 10: On Tuesday, Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his concerns regarding the need for repairs to the damaged barbed wire fencing along Tripura's international border with Bangladesh.
The northeastern state shares an extensive 856 km border with Bangladesh, of which approximately 80% has been secured with fencing. However, the installation of fencing in the remaining areas has faced delays for various reasons.
Several sections of the barbed wire fencing have suffered damage due to natural events like landslides and heavy rains, as well as vandalism by miscreants.
"During the NEC plenary session held here in December 2024, I raised the issue of repairing the damaged fencing and constructing new barriers in the unfenced areas. This matter requires urgent attention. I have consistently brought this issue to the central leadership's notice, and it is currently under consideration by the Centre. I will reiterate this matter to Delhi," he stated.
Regarding border infiltration, Saha mentioned that he has conferred with the Border Security Forces (BSF) and other security agencies to enhance surveillance along the border to prevent any unauthorized crossings.
He noted that the rate of infiltration has not escalated as previously feared in the northeastern region, and the agencies are implementing necessary measures for the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Earlier, Chief Minister Saha launched the initiative titled “Seva, Sushan, Garib Kalyan of 11 Saal” at the party's state headquarters, celebrating 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, which emphasizes achievements in poverty alleviation, national security, and economic growth.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and general secretary Bipin Debbarma were also present at the event.
