Tripura Chief Minister Unveils Major Initiatives for Tribal Welfare
Commitment to Tribal Welfare in Tripura
Agartala, July 27: Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha reaffirmed the government's dedication to tribal welfare by announcing several new initiatives, including a significant Rs 1,600-crore project funded by the World Bank and a considerable budget allocation for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
During a public gathering, Saha disclosed that the World Bank-approved initiative, designed to improve the living conditions of tribal communities in the North East, has already commenced.
He expressed gratitude towards Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her crucial role in facilitating the swift approval of the project.
As per the 2021 Census, tribal individuals make up 31.76 percent of Tripura's population, encompassing 19 unique communities.
Emphasizing the need for inclusive growth, the Chief Minister stated that the BJP-led government is diligently working to elevate these communities through various social, economic, and cultural programs.
For the fiscal year 2025-26, the state has allocated Rs 860 crore for the TTAADC, along with an additional Rs 179.82 crore aimed at comprehensive tribal development. Moreover, Rs 6,000 crore has been set aside under the tribal sub-plan to address developmental disparities in tribal areas.
In terms of cultural preservation, Saha highlighted that since 2019, seven tribal figures from Tripura have received the Padma Shri award, marking a historic milestone for the state.
The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging the contributions of tribal communities, which includes the declaration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and the launch of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan aimed at comprehensive village development. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring dignity, recognition, and sustainable advancement for all indigenous groups.
