Cabinet Expansion on the Horizon

On Thursday, Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura, is expected to announce an expansion of his cabinet, according to official sources. Saha took office after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regained power in the 2023 assembly elections.

Following the inclusion of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) in his government last year, Saha welcomed two of their legislators into his cabinet. A formal invitation from the government stated that the Chief Secretary of Tripura has requested attendance at the swearing-in ceremony for ministers, scheduled for July 3 at 1:30 PM in the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan.

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister met with Governor N. Indrasen Reddy at the Raj Bhavan in Agartala. However, when questioned by reporters on Wednesday, he refrained from commenting on the potential cabinet expansion.

Currently, Saha leads an 11-member cabinet, with one position still vacant. This cabinet comprises eight BJP members, including the Chief Minister, along with two ministers from the TMP and one member from the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT).
