The Kargil War, which began in May 1999, saw Pakistani forces infiltrate the Line of Control, aiming to seize Indian positions on strategic ridges to control National Highway 1A, a crucial route connecting Srinagar to Leh. Upon detecting the intruders, India initiated Operation Vijay, showcasing meticulous planning and unwavering determination as soldiers battled for over two months in challenging conditions to reclaim every post.

On July 26, the Indian flag was once again raised over the Ladakh mountains, a testament to the efforts of the armed forces. During the conflict, four soldiers were honored with the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India's highest military award.
