Remembering Nitya Bora


Jorhat, Apr 22: Renowned writer, critic, and journalist Nitya Bora has sadly passed away at the age of 83 in a private hospital in Jorhat.


For the past six months, Bora had been battling health issues related to high blood pressure. Initially, he was admitted to a private facility in Guwahati but was later transferred to Jorhat for continued care under the guidance of a relative who is a physician at Jorhat Medical College.


Recently, he was receiving treatment in the ICU at AG Nursing Home in Jorhat. Unfortunately, his health declined, leading to his passing, which has left many in sorrow.


According to his son-in-law, "His condition worsened over the last three days, and he struggled to breathe before passing away around 2:30 pm. His final rites will take place in Guwahati."


Bora was a prolific author and editor, contributing significantly to journalism and literature in Assam through numerous books and articles.


His body has been transported from Jorhat to Guwahati for the last rites, as confirmed by family sources.


Born in a small village in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur district, Bora held prominent editorial roles in various leading Assamese publications, leaving a lasting impact on the literary community.


Members of the Jorhat Press Club gathered to pay their respects to the esteemed journalist before his remains were taken for the final farewell.
