New Delhi, June 13: Sunjay Kapur, a prominent figure in India's manufacturing and mobility sectors, passed away on Thursday in London, UK, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and leadership, as stated by Sona Comstar.
At the age of 53, Kapur, who served as chairman and non-executive director of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar), died from a heart attack while playing polo in England.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media platform X, the company expressed its deep sorrow over the unexpected loss of Sunjay J Kapur, who died on June 12, 2025.
Described as a “visionary leader,” the company highlighted his significant contributions in transforming Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology enterprise focused on innovation and sustainability.
“His dedication, vision, and unwavering pursuit of excellence inspired all who had the honor of working alongside him,” the statement read.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kapur was a loving father, a mentor to many, and a passionate supporter of India's manufacturing and mobility industries. His absence is profoundly felt throughout the sector and among the Sona family.

Kapur took over as managing director of Sona Comstar in 2015 after the death of his father and later became chairman. The company is known for supplying essential components, including electric vehicle (EV) traction motors and starter motors.
Just hours before his passing, Kapur shared a post on X regarding the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, expressing his condolences to the affected families.
Previously married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children, he later married Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son named Azarias.
