Honoring a Legend
On the anniversary of the passing of the iconic Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, various political leaders, including UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, gathered to pay their respects.
Milkha Singh's Legacy
Milkha Singh, affectionately known as the 'Flying Sikh', is celebrated as one of India's finest athletes in track and field. He represented the nation in numerous international events, achieving a personal best of 20.7 seconds in the 200m at Lahore on January 31, 1960. This performance set the stage for his remarkable showing at the Rome Olympics, where he recorded a National Record time of 45.6 seconds in the 400m.
In addition to his Olympic achievements, Milkha Singh made history by winning the 440-yard race at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, where he set a Games Record with a time of 46.6 seconds. After retiring from competitive athletics, he took on the role of Director of Sports in Punjab, significantly contributing to the development of sports in the region. Milkha Singh passed away in June 2021.

Each chapter of his life, which struggled against adverse circumstances to enhance India's prestige on the global stage, has been a symbol of patience, discipline, and unwavering resolve."
