Former Governor D.Y. Patil Passes Away at 92

Mumbai, August 4 - Senior Congress leader D.Y. Patil, who previously served as the governor of Bihar and Tripura, passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, following a prolonged illness. Family sources confirmed that he was 92 years old.


Patil, who was instrumental in establishing numerous educational institutions in the state, is survived by his sons, Satej Patil, Sanjay Patil, and Ajinkya Patil. Satej Patil is a former minister and a prominent Congress figure. Before focusing on education, Patil served as a legislator from 1967 to 1978.


He founded the D.Y. Patil University, which offers courses in medicine, engineering, and various other fields. Honored with the Padma Shri award, Patil also held the position of governor in Tripura and Bihar, and he had additional responsibilities as the governor of West Bengal.
