Honoring a Literary Pioneer

On Wednesday, a heartfelt tribute was paid to Fakir Mohan Senapati, revered as the father of modern Odia literature, on the occasion of his birth anniversary in Odisha.


Among those who commemorated Senapati were Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhakta Charan Das, and several others, all acknowledging his significant contributions to Odia literature.


Born on January 14, 1843, Senapati was not only a writer and poet but also a philosopher and social reformer who played a crucial role in establishing a distinct identity for the Odia language. He passed away on June 14, 1918.


The Chief Minister expressed on the social media platform 'X' that Senapati's dedication to preserving the Odia language and its identity will continue to inspire future generations.
