Sadatullah Khan's Passing
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) expressed its sorrow over the passing of Sadatullah Khan, a former Indian football forward, who died in Bengaluru on Tuesday at the age of 75 after a short illness. Known for his exceptional dribbling skills, Khan was a formidable forward who posed a challenge to any defense. His remarkable ability to maneuver the ball, whether cutting in or executing turns, made him a difficult player to dispossess, as noted by the AIFF.
International Career Highlights
Sadatullah Khan showcased his talent on the international stage, representing India during the 1968 Merdeka Cup. He made his debut for the senior national team against Malaysia on August 11, 1968, in Kuala Lumpur. Over his international career, he earned five caps and scored three goals, including two against South Vietnam and one against Burma, all during the 1968 Merdeka Cup.
Domestic and Club Contributions
On the domestic front, Sadatullah played for Mysore in the Santosh Trophy in 1965 and 1966. His club career was marked by significant achievements with several top teams. While with Mohammedan Sporting, he was instrumental in winning the Calcutta Football League in 1967, earning recognition as a key player in their title run. Additionally, he secured the Stafford Cup and the Bordoloi Trophy in 1970 with the Black and White Brigade. In 1969, he joined East Bengal, contributing to their IFA Shield victory that year. He also played for ITI, Bangalore, in 1971 and 1972.
