Revamping Northern Odisha's Railway Stations
In Bhubaneswar, Indian Railways is actively working on the redevelopment of several railway stations in Northern Odisha as part of the Amrit Station Scheme. The project encompasses seven vital stations: Kendujhargarh, Barbil, Jaroli, Baripada, Rairangpur, Betnoti, and Badampahar, all set to receive extensive upgrades to become modern transport hubs.
This initiative aims to enhance passenger travel experiences while also promoting economic development in the region. Kendujhargarh station is slated for a transformation with an investment of Rs 10.16 crore, while Barbil station is undergoing a significant overhaul with a budget of Rs 17.7 crore.
Jaroli station is also being upgraded with an allocated budget of Rs 8.6 crore. Baripada, a key station in the area, is receiving enhancements worth Rs 15.354 crore. Additional funding has been designated for Rairangpur (Rs 7.4 crore), Betnoti (Rs 14.146 crore), and Badampahar (Rs 12.22 crore).
Although the stations are at various stages of development, the entire project is anticipated to be completed within the next two years, as per reports.
The redevelopment will prioritize infrastructure improvements, modern amenities, and seamless connectivity to enhance both passenger comfort and commercial viability.
The selected stations in Northern Odisha are expected to see substantial upgrades in design, technology, and passenger services. This initiative aligns with the broader efforts to modernize the Indian Railway network, aiming to provide an efficient and user-friendly travel experience.
Modern platforms, upgraded ticketing systems, waiting areas, and enhanced cleanliness standards will be part of the new features, ensuring convenience for all travelers.
The redevelopment will also include foot overbridges equipped with lifts and escalators to facilitate access for senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and families with children.
In line with Indian Railways' commitment to sustainability, the stations will incorporate green building practices, renewable energy solutions, water conservation methods, and waste management systems.
Plans are in place to improve the circulating areas of the stations, including designated drop-off and pick-up lanes along with sufficient parking facilities.
Additional amenities such as Wi-Fi, digital displays, advanced security measures, improved catering options, and modern waiting lounges will significantly enhance the travel experience.
This redevelopment initiative is expected to invigorate local economies by boosting tourism, enhancing connectivity, and creating job opportunities in the region.
The Northern Odisha area, known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes, stands to gain immensely from these upgrades. In total, 59 railway stations across Odisha are currently being developed under the Amrit Station Scheme.
