(File Photo) New Delhi, August 5 - On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the substantial transformations experienced by the residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. He noted that there has been significant infrastructure development, along with increased opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports. Commemorating the seventh anniversary of the removal of Article 370, Modi reaffirmed the central government's commitment to the development of these Union Territories, emphasizing the importance of enabling every citizen to dream big, achieve their goals, and contribute to the creation of a developed India.
The Prime Minister remarked that both women and marginalized communities, who had been deprived of their fundamental constitutional rights for decades, have gained empowerment due to the full implementation of the Indian Constitution. He shared on social media, "Seven years ago, on this day, Article 370 and 35(A) became history, marking the beginning of a decisive new chapter in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh." The BJP-led central government rendered Article 370 ineffective on August 5, 2019, subsequently dividing the erstwhile state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Previously, Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed special status under Article 370.
Modi reiterated the government's dedication to the progress of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, expressing a commitment to ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to dream big, achieve their aspirations, and contribute to the development of India. He also noted that this year's August 5 holds additional significance as the nation celebrates the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He stated, "His lifelong dedication to the unity of the country will continue to inspire generations. The dream he envisioned decades ago became historically true on August 5, 2019." Mukherjee was the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mukherjee fought for the abrogation of Article 370 and the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India.
